EMDR Therapy Intensives

heal . restore . renew

Potential Benefits

Are you ready for deep healing and restoration that can come in days, rather than months or years? EMDR Therapy Intensives provide an efficient and effective way to resolve difficulties that are rooted in earlier experiences of abuse, neglect, trauma, or difficult parent/caregiver relationships.

A Therapy Intensive is an approach to trauma processing that can accelerate healing for individuals who are motivated to let go of old wounds and change patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others that are no longer serving them well.

During and after the retreat, participants may develop new and healthier ways of thinking, a greater ability to accept and express a broader range of emotions, and a feeling of calmness and connection within their body.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based, structured therapy approach to help people recover from the impact of traumatic experiences. Learn more at EMDRIA.org

Format and Logistics

Therapy Intensives generally consist of longer and more frequent sessions of structured therapy following an EMDR protocol. The specific schedule will be tailored to meet your needs and preferences, based on availability. Most commonly, Intensive sessions range from 1.5 to 4 hours. Intensives can take place during consecutive days or may be spaced out (e.g., weekly half days) over a set time period.

Each day or session of an EMDR Intensive can be equivalent to several weeks of traditional therapy. Intensives provide opportunity for continuity and progress to occur in an effective and accelerated way that can be difficult to achieve in weekly sessions.

During your initial intake appointment, I will provide an estimate for the number of days needed. The first day of the Intensive is focused on history-taking and strengthening your coping skills and internal resources. Days include breaks as needed, and longer days include a lunch break.

Participating in an EMDR Therapy Intensive can be a stand-alone service, or can occur in conjunction with individual therapy with me or another provider.

Effectiveness

Clients who have completed an Intensive Therapy Retreat with me have reported many benefits, including decreased PTSD symptoms, reduced anxiety, improved ability to manage anger, less fearfulness, and a greater ability to be “present” in their own lives and relationships. Individuals, as well as parents of adolescent participants, have described feeling “like a huge weight has been lifted,” a new lightness, renewed happiness, and as being “back to my old self.”

As with any treatment or program, I cannot guarantee the outcome. There are many factors that determine if and when you may be ready for this process and what your unique goals will be.

Please Note:

Therapy Intensives are not appropriate for individuals struggling with active suicidal thoughts or behaviors or with substance addiction, which may compromise our ability to maintain your safety throughout the process.
